Cracked Tank or Bowl Will Require a Replacement
If you had to choose one plumbing fixture in your home that’s used the most each day, chances are the toilet comes to mind first. Because of that, when it gets clogged or start leaking, it’s a huge inconvenience for everyone.
Leaks are a huge hassle no matter where they are coming from, but a toilet is especially frustrating. Water leaks left unattended to can cause extensive damage and we don’t want that to happen to you. To help ease the pain of a toilet leak, we want to fill you in on the most common causes. This way, if it ever happens to you, you’ll know where to look.
Common Causes of a Leaky Toilet
- Worn washers or bolts: There are two large bolts that keep the tank attached to the bowl. If those bolts become loose or get worn out, that could cause your toilet to leak.
- Obstructed overflow tube: When the tank starts to fill too high with water, the overflow tube relocates the water to prevent it from going over the top. If the overflow tube breaks, the water has nowhere to go but onto the floor.
- Corrosion: Corrosion can form on your pipes or toilet assembly due to age, chemical reactions, or other impurities in the water. When those parts get overcome with corrosion, they can spring a leak.
- Cracked tank or bowl: A crack in the bowl or tank of your toilet will require an immediate replacement. Since the tank is the place where water flows into the bowl after flushing, if it cracks, it will cause water to leak all over the floor.
